I had the luck of being one of the co-founders of the Energy for Sustainability (EfS) Initiative of the University of Coimbra, back in 2006. Its simplicity and not bureaucratic operation and management are very important factors for the success of the cooperation among researchers that come from thirteen research units within the university, from social sciences to engineering, through architecture, life and earth sciences, psychology, economics and management.
It is simultaneously a challenge and an exciting experience to be part of this innovative form of activity, mobilising Master and PhD students, faculty and staff , in research, lecturing, outreach and sustainable management of university facilities.
A common place adapts perfectly to the EfS Initiative: it is a whole that is worth more than the sum of its parts.
