On the 23rd
February 2006, the Ministry of Justice and the University
of Coimbra signed a protocol on the
creation of a University, Judicial and European Court (TUJE) at the University of Coimbra.
The University,
Judicial and European Court
will be: A University Court, since
several university functions will be based in the TUJE: teaching of law,
professional legal training, observatory of justice. The aim is to broaden
experiences to improve the quality and efficiency of the legal services in Portugal.
A Judicial Court composed of judges, public prosecutors and
support staff, in accordance with Constitutional and legal order, which will
act as a court of first instance as in any ordinary judicial court.
A European Court, since not only it will be based on
the building of the future College of Europe but also it intends to be a place
to learn the judicial function at the European level. in connection with the
European Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, the
International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.
