The international students who enter the University of Coimbra (UC) in the academic year 2017/2018 through foreign higher education entry examinations such as ENEM, International Baccalaureate, A-Level, Gaokao and Liankao, will have the opportunity to apply to merit scholarships.
These scholarships waive the payment of the annual student tuition fees in the amount of 7,000 EUR. The eligible applicants must have an application grade equal to or higher than 16 marks (160 points) in the Portuguese grading scale.
The number of scholarships varies per Faculty and degree programme and its renewal depends on the academic performance of the students during the subsequent years of the degree.
With this measure the University of Coimbra seeks to reach a wider range of applicants with high academic merit who dream about earning their first degree in a leading European university.
What does the scholarship cover?
According to the Rector’s Order 24/2017, the scholarship waives the payment of the annual student tuition fees in the amount of 7,000 EUR.
We remind you that students are still responsible for the registration fee and other course related taxes, as well as for the costs of accommodation, food, school materials and other personal expenses.
How many scholarships will be awarded?
The number of scholarships varies per Faculty and degree programme. In the academic year 2017/2018, the number of scholarships is the following:
|Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC)||10|
|Faculty of Law (FDUC)||6|
|Faculty of Economics (FEUC)||4*|
|Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLUC)||5|
|Faculty of Pharmacy (FFUC)||1|
|Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences (FPCEUC)||2|
|Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education (FCDEF)||1|
*One scholarship per undergraduate degree programme
Who can apply to the scholarships?
Students admitted to the University of Coimbra in the academic year 2017/2018, through the special call for international students, with an application grade equal to or higher than 16 marks (160 points) in the Portuguese grading scale.
Having an application grade equal to or higher than 16 marks, per se, does not imply the award of the scholarship. The number of scholarships is limited per Faculty and, in some cases, per degree programme. For further details, check the above-mentioned Rector’s Order.
How does it work?
The eligible applicants will receive an email from the University of Coimbra with detailed instructions.
Please keep an eye on your email registered in inforestudante.uc.pt because the process starts right after your degree programme application approval, during the enrolment and registration period.
Which are the evaluation criteria?
The ranking of the applicants for each scholarship type is based on the following calculation:
(2 x ACA + 1 x MOT) / 3
Further details can be found in the article 4 of the Regulation 397/2016 available below.
The results of the scholarship award process will be sent to the applicants and made available in inforestudante.uc.pt as well as in the webpage of the University of Coimbra.
The applicants not selected for the scholarship, but still interested in the admission vacancy, will have to pay the first three instalments of the tuition fees within the deadline indicated in the email with the results.
How does the renewal of the scholarship works?
The scholarship is renewable annually until the end of the study cycle in which the beneficiaries were enrolled at the time of the initial granting of the scholarship, as long as the beneficiaries keep the requirements mentioned in the sub-paragraph b) of the paragraph 1 of the article 3 of the Regulation 397/2016 (available below), or in the regulation in force at the time of the renewal of the scholarship.
