The Laboratory of Geophysics, Geotechnics and Ore Treatment includes four laboratories, the Laboratory of Geophysics, the Laboratory Geotechnics, the Laboratory of Sample and Mineral Purification and the Laboratory of Ore Treatment.
The Laboratory of Geophysics provides support in Applied Geophysics to students, teachers and researchers from the DCT, the Geosciences Center and the Earth and Space Research Center, the Mechanical Engineering Center and society in general. The Laboratory of Geophysics of the Department of Earth Sciences of FCTUC is a space where experimental activities related to the master's classes are developed, as well as research related to the development of master's and doctoral theses. The research work is carried out in the laboratory, in simulation tanks of geological structures where electrical resistivity techniques are applied, studding these models. However, the true "laboratory" of geophysical prospecting is in the field, where all methods and techniques can be applied to the most diverse areas of application of geophysical prospecting. These methods are always non-intrusive and non-destructive and their applications range from small structures (archeology) to large structures (regional geological structures).
The Laboratory of Geotechnics of the Department of Earth Sciences of the FCTUC is intended for experimental activities integrated in the master's degree in Geological and Mining Engineering, as well as enable scientific research of the teaching staff of the DCT, mainly of the group Geotechnologies of the Center of Geosciences of the University of Coimbra. Although essentially a didactic laboratory, it is also able to provide services to the community with the preparation of reports and opinions requested by companies, institutions and individuals. Its main work field is related to engineering geology and soil and rocks mechanics.
The Laboratory of Sample Preparation and Mineral Separation of the Department of Earth Sciences of the FCTUC aims to support research activities of the teaching and research staff of DCT, the students of the master's and doctoral programs, taught or supported by the DCT, and to the practical classes of the DCT’s degrees. The laboratory it is to be used by all the teachers and researchers, and it’s not related to a specific research group, as well as gives support to teachers from FCTUC and other universities with which we have collaboration.
The Laboratory of Ore Treatment of the Department of Earth Sciences of the FCTUC is dedicated to experimental activities integrated in the master's degree in Geological and Mining Engineering and PhD in Geotechnology (partnership between the University of Coimbra and the University of Aveiro) as well as Enable the scientific investigation of the teachers of the DCT, mainly from the group Geotechnologies of the Center of Geosciences of the University of Coimbra. Although essentially a didactic laboratory, it is also able to provide services to the community with the preparation of reports and opinions requested by companies, institutions and individuals. Its main work field is related to engineering geology and soil and ore treatment.
