    First Cycle of Law Studies

    Law Degree (complies with Bologna provisions) - 8 semesters

    The First Cycle of Law studies (which complies with the Bologna provisions) aims to give students a set of basic legal knowledge - all the tools that a jurist needs, whatever his or her area of work. This degree will make you a jurist with an integrated and comprehensive training in the technical, legal and doctrinal spheres, not omitting ethical, humanistic and cultural concerns. You will emerge prepared to successfully practice a wide range of occupations in the most varied sectors of national life. You will further develop the critical capacity necessary to understand the Law, its function in social regulation and also its contribution to the good governance of the community.

    Public-Private Administration (complies with Bologna provisions)

    Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration - 3 years

    The bachelor’s degree in Public-Private Administration answers the current demand for management-oriented institutions in the public interest. Over a period of modern and rigorous academic study, you will acquire the knowledge and skills to carry out senior roles in government at central, regional and local level, in administration, human resources, planning and auditing, as well as the performance of duties in the field of public and private enterprise sectors. A comprehensive training curriculum will also allow you to pursue a career in international organizations.

    In offering its 2nd Cycle Master's programmethe Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra aims to provide graduates, national and foreign, with an advanced and specialized education in order to enrich their academic and professional training.Excellence education standards are guaranteed by the quality of the faculty teaching staff, the existence of a ”numerus clausus” quota by area of specialization, except in the area of Legal and Forensic Sciences, which allows for personalized teaching and supervised study, as well as by the combination of tradition and innovation, reflected in the teaching of classical disciplines and topical themes.

    The University of Coimbra Faculty of Law offers 15 areas of specialization in the 2nd Cycle of Studies in Law and one area of specialization in the 2nd Cycle of Studies in Public Administration. Each year, the Scientific Council decides the areas of specialization for each academic year. The area of specialization in Law and Forensic Sciences is the only exception, since it is open to all graduates, regardless of grade of first degree and so serves as a “broad base” master’s.
