With his doctoral thesis "“Moldar as economias urbanas – uma conta satélite de deslocações pendulares” in an ongoing process, the Coimbra University student João Pedro Ferreira reached the first place ex-aequo in the 22nd International Input-Output Association Conference. The prize was awarded on the 18th of July in Lisbon.
The GEMF researchers John Addison and Paulino Teixeira are cited in the recent editions of three of the most popular university textbooks worldwide: Modern Labor Economics (Ehrenberg and Smith; Boston: Prentice-Hall), Labor Economics (George Borjas; Boston: Mc Graw-Hill) and Labor Economics (Cahuc and Zylberberg; Cambridge, Mass: MIT Press)
Rui Pedro Brito, FEUC PhD Student of the Joint PhD Programme in Economics, was awarded a FCT Grant. The competition was extremely selective. There were only 5 grants awarded in the areas of Economics, Finance and Management.
A second grant was awarded to another PhD Student of the EEGUM, adding to a total of two Grants awarded to the Joint PhD Programme - a great achievement, without a shadow of doubt.
The paper of the researcher António Alberto Santos “Second-Order Filter Distribution Approximations for Financial Time Series With Extreme Outliers”, published in the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, co-authored by J.Q. Smith, University of Warwick, was recently cited in two elite journals on economics, the Review of Economic Studies and the Journal of Econometrics.
