Ana Brito completed the MSc in Biomedical Engineering, in the field of Imaging and Radiation, in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, in September 2008. After this, she performed a professional traineeship at Associação de Apoio ao Centro de Investigação em Meio Ambiente, Genética e Oncobiologia (ACIMAGO). In addition, she has collaborated as a Researcher and Research technician at the Biophysics Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. In 2009, she was awarded with an individual PhD scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology and developed its PhD project at the Biophysics Unit/IBILI at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. In February 2015, Ana Brito completed a PhD in Health Sciences, field of Biomedical Sciences, in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. Her PhD thesis is titled: ‘GLUT-1; a therapeutic target for primary liver tumors?’. Thus, in addition to her PhD project, Ana Brito also participated in research projects related to the study of multidrug resistance in primary liver tumors, as well as the study of NIS (Natrium Iodide Symporter) as a therapeutic target for cholangiocarcinoma. Ana Brito is co-author of 16 scientific papers, 1 book chapter, 160 abstracts in scientific conference proceedings and received throughout her career 10 awards/distinctions. Since April 2014, she is a collaborator of Reg4life (Biocant Park, Cantanhede) being responsible for the Regulatory Affairs, being also a member of the IBILI and CIMAGO research teams.
Ana Brito preferential areas of research are the primary liver tumors (Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cholangiocarcinoma), in particular the discovery of new forms of diagnosis and treatment. More recently Ana Brito has been dedicated to the application of biomaterials for bone regeneration.
