Work Experience:

December 2002 onwards: Working in the research team of the Visual Neuroscience Laboratory (IBILI) - Electrophysiological and psychophysical evaluation of ophthalmologic and neurological patients.

January 1994 onwards: Visual function and structural evaluation of participants in different clinical trials - 20 up to date (AIBILI – Association for Innovation and Biomedical Research on Light and Image, Coimbra).

June 1989 onwards: Visual function and structural evaluation of patients, including Electrophysiology, Contrast Sensitivity, Colour Vision, Perimetry, Retinal Thickness Evaluation – OCT and RTA, Angiography and Fundus Photography, Fluorometry, Refraction, Corneal Topography, Specular Endothelial Microscopy (Centre of Responsibility in Ophthalmology of the University Hospital of Coimbra):

Teaching:

September 2002 onwards: Postsecondary Teacher (Higher Polytechnic teaching).

Teaching of the subjects of “ Visual Neurophysiology I / II ” of Orthoptics degree course (ESTeSL – Higher Institute for Health Technology of Lisbon).

Responsible for training programmes on electrophysiology, namely for students of Orthoptics degree course.

2006: Pfizer Prize for Clinical Investigation (Society for Medical Sciences, Lisbon).

2005: Pfizer Honour Prize for Clinical Investigation (Society for Medical Sciences, Lisbon).

Scientific Interest:

Research on phenotype-genotype features of acquired and inherited optic neuropathies, (namely in multiple sclerosis, Kjer and Leber optic neuropathies) and diabetic neuroretinopathy, by means of electrophysiological and psychophysiological methods. Structure-function correlation.
