The Psychology PhD in the speciality of Educational Psychology is a joint initiative of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra and of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon and aims at integrating theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge in three areas of research (Learning in an Educational Context, Vocational and Personal Development and Health and Wellbeing Promotion) and at developing research skills to enable students to design, adapt, implement and evaluate studies in the field of Educational Psychology.
The Psychology PhD curriculum combines an advanced training course and the preparation of the doctoral thesis. The advanced training course is a preliminary and evaluative phase in the student’s route along the doctoral programme and attendance and assessment with a mark of Good or higher is required for enrolment in the second phase, which is for the preparation of the doctoral thesis.
The advanced training course lasts for two semesters (60 ECTS) and is primarily intended to develop the research project in the context of deepening knowledge and developing skills within the course areas. The successful completion of the course entitles the student to a diploma issued by both universities. After completion of the advanced training course students who have achieved the necessary minimum mark may proceed to the final registration of the subject and plan of their doctoral thesis.
In the study cycle with course, the appointment of the dissertation supervisor(s) will be made according to the Course Regulation
