Day of China 2015



The University of Coimbra organized the 4th edition of the Day of China on the 27th of May 2015, this year dedicated to the theme Health and Wellbeing.

This initiative intended to continue the work that has been done at the UC to strengthen the cultural and scientific knowledge about the People’s Republic of China.

Several events took place on the 27th of May, open to all those interested.

Note that the photography exhibition “China is Beautiful” is on display in the foyer of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra until the 27th of September 2015 (free admission).

A presentation of books printed in China by Dr. António Eugénio Maia do Amaral, Deputy Director of the General University of the UC, took place at the College of Jesus’ auditorium.

Opening of the photography exhibition “China is Beautiful”

The photography exhibition “China is Beautiful”, courtesy of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, was opened by Professor João Gabriel Silva, Rector of the University of Coimbra, accompanied by Dr. Shu Jianping, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy.

The exhibition is on display in the foyer of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra until the 27th of September 2015.

Workshop | Healthy-ageing and well-being: Qigong

A workshop to introduce the practice of Qigong took place at the Botanic Garden and was coordinated by José Ricardo Cabeças (FMUC).

Oriental guided tour

A guided tour to the University of Coimbra took place in the late afternoon and included stops at the Antropological Reserve, the Joanina Library, the New Cathedral and Physics Office to get to know the oriental heritage belonging to the estate of UC.

Presentation of the Chinese Course 

As a conclusion to the Day of China, Dr. Miao Zhou, teacher of Mandarin, made an informal presentation of the Chinese Language and Culture Course taught at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.
