Fernando J. Regateiro
Fernando de Jesus Regateiro was born in Ermida (Mira) in July 1952. He is married with two children.
He is Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, where he teaches Genetics. He is chair of subject number XL of the Portugese Medical Academy.
He is author of the book Manual de Genética Médica (Coimbra University Press, 2003), co-author of more than fifteen books, and author and co-author of more than two hundred scientific articles.
He holds the “health services management competency” qualification from the Portuguese Medical Council.
He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Coimbra University Hospitals since May 2007.
He became a member of the Mira Municipal Assembly in December 2001 and has been President of that body since 2005. He has also been President of the Lower Mondego Intermunicipal Community Assembly since January 2009.
He has been President of the management committee of the Association of Former Students of Coimbra. He was an Advisor to the National Council for Ethics in the Life Sciences. He was President of the Board of Directors of the Central Regional Health Management Body between 2005 and 2007. He was also Director of the Central Histocompatability Centre.
In his involvement with the University of Coimbra, he has served as Pro-Rector, Director of Coimbra University Press, and as a member of the Cultural-Scientific Council and of the University Assembly, as well as the Social Council of the University. In the Faculty of Medicine he has also served as a member of the Assembly for the Drafting of Statutes and as a member of the Representative Assembly, President of the Research Support Office, and founder and Vice-President of the Environment, Genetics and Oncobiology Research Centre. He was an Advisor to the Portuguese National Education Council.
He was President of the National Federation of Parents, member of the Classification Committee for public performances, Social Judge of the Coimbra Family and Minors Court, member of the consultative group of Radiofusão Portuguesa, President of the management body of the Coimbra Chamber Orchestra and President of the Greater Coimbra Area Municipal Assembly.
