He is Full Professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra and there he is the Director of the History and Overseas Expansion Institute. He was a Member of the Management Council of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra and President of the Assembly of Representatives. He is also a researcher at the History of Society and Culture Institute at the University of Coimbra. His work has covered the areas of History of the Discoveries and the Portuguese Expansion and the History of Brazil.
