Lúcio Cunha

He is a Geographer and holds a Doctorate in Physical Geography. He is Professor in the Geography Department and a researcher at the Geography and Organization of the Territory Study Centre (CEGOT) at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. Throughout his more than thirty year university career he has developed work in the area of Geomorphology (Karst Geomorphology, Fluvial Geomorphology and Heritage Geomorphology), Physical Geography applied to Environmental studies (Natural resources, Environment and Tourism and Natural Risks) and Geographical Information Systems applied to the territorial organisation.

He took part in several national and international research projects. He published around a hundred and fifty papers on the themes he has devoted himself to and he gave talks at conferences in several Higher Education institutions not only in Portugal but also in Spain, Italy, Uruguay and Cape Verde.

He was President of the Directive Council, Vice-President on the Scientific Council and the Director of the Geography Department at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. He was also the President of the Portuguese Geomorphologist Association and a member of the management team of the Portuguese Association of Geographers and National Commission for Geography. Currently he is the coordinator of line 1 (Environmental Nature and Dynamics) at the Geography and Organization of the Territory Study Centre. He is also a member of the Scientific Commission of the Iberian Studies Centre.
