As the author points out in his Preface, there were
few academic studies published in Portugal at the beginning of the century on
subjects related to the Capital Market; hence, the interest in this 2nd
edition. Though this was written in 1906 as a doctorate thesis, the language is
easy to read, and perfectly accessible to first-year students of economics,
