This book presents the reflections of a group of
researchers from Portugal and Latin America, generating a dialogue between
diverse disciplinary narratives and different societies. It results from a
seminar on the subject of “Citizenship, public policies and social networks”
organized by the Citizenship and Social Policy Group and Local Power Observatory
at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra (CES), in collaboration
with the Study Group for Citizenship, Exclusion and Processes of Change (NUCEM)
at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Brazil.
The texts gathered here offer new approaches to current democratic regimes, participation, citizenship and the production of wellbeing. Attentive to the new actors and institutional arrangements that are appearing in the public sphere and gradually replacing the forms of societal organization that were dominant in the 20th century, it questions old and new theories and proposes alternative readings and conceptualizations that enable the re(thinking) of the state-market-community triad.
