On wedenesday, at 10h30 am, do not miss the official opening of the Academic year at the "Sala Grande dos Atos". The ceremony will be livetstreamed at uc.pt. At 5 pm, the Rector welcomes the new students at the Botanical Garden, where they can take care of a plant during their freshmen year, after which it will be planted again in a chosen forest. The project "UC.Plantas" aims at promoting biodiversity and contributing to the renovation of forests.


Congratulations to the University of Coimbra for its place in the top 200 of the international QS Graduate Employability Rankings (QS GER), promoted since 2015 by Quacquarelli Symonds. In this third edition the UC improved its score in the indicators which evaluate the institution's reputation among employers and the projects that promote the interaction between students and empolyers. 

A team of nine Dental Medicine researchers of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra has developed cells similar to stem cells to be used in regenerative dentistry, using gingival fibroblasts. The Portuguese Society of Stomatology and Dental Medicine (SPEMD) has awarded the study a grant to support scientific dissemination.

"Curar e reparar" (to heal and repair) is the theme of the 2017 edition of the Anozero biennial of contemporary art, which will take place from the 11th November to the 30th December and will bring to Coimbra works by 34 renowned artists, including Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Francis Alys, Jimmie Durham, Julião Sarmento, Matt Mullican or William Kentridge.

The Architecture Meeting of the Coimbra School is taking place today until 6 pm at the Rectory Auditorium . The event is organized by the Department of Architecture of the UC and the curator is João Mendes Ribeiro. Free entrance.

The University of Coimbra is one of the chosen venues to host one of the events of the cycle “Ópera no Património”. The visitação a “Carmen”, by Georges Bizet, will take place at the Schools Courtyard on the 23rd September. Entrance is free but subject to ticket presentation, which you can pick up at the ticket office of the General Library of the UC and TAGV.

“Oh as casas" (Oh the Houses) is the theme of the 20th Cultural Week of the UC, taking place from the 1st March until the 27th April. The call for project proposals is open until the 24th September.
