The official opening ceremony of Academic year 2017/2018 took place yesterday. The first big news announced by the Rector was the bilingual edition of the 16th century "Curso Conimbricense", in 20 volumes, considered to be the first world global textbooks. The Rector's speech also highlighted the increase in the number of public tenders and in the global budget of the University. The European University Games 2018 and the Health World Summit were two of the events mentioned in the speech. You may watch the full speech here (available in Portuguese only).
Applications to the distance learning courses offered by the University of Coimbra and the Open University are open until the 1st of October. Check all the information here.
Tomorrow at 4:30 pm, do not miss the inauguration of the exhibition “Visto de Coimbra – os Jesuítas entre Portugal e o Mundo” ("Seen from Coimbra - the Jesuits between Portugal and the World") at the Science Museum of the UC. The exhibition will be open until March 2018 and focuses on two main subjects - the Jesuit colleges of Coimbra and the Jesuit missions in the world.
Another edition of Cria’ctividade has already started. UNtil the 5th of October, welcoming new students will include activities such as concerts, workshops, films, debates, sport and poetry. Cria'ctividade is an informal group of students who intend to offer freshmen an alternative to the traditional "Praxe".
Next Saturday, at 9.30 pm, the UC Schools Courtyard becomes the stage for the visitation to "Carmen", by Georges Bizet. The University of Coimbra is one of the places chosen to host the event included in the cycle "Opera within the Heritage". Admission is free but subject to the ticket presentation, which you can pick up at the ticket office of the General Library of the UC or TAGV.
On the 28th of September, starting at 2:30 p.m., the D. Dinis Cultural Centre will host the 4th edition of the "Roadshow de Boas Práticas de Valorização das Pessoas", promoted by the General Directorate for the Qualification of Workers in Public Functions. Registrations are available here.
