The Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2000/60/EC and the Directive 2008/105/ECaddresses and regulates, respectively, the chemical status in water by focusing on Priority Substances, so there is a growing need to consider the potential adverse effects of emerging pollutants on the environment. Individual pollutants in the environment will only comprise a small part of a complex mixture of anthropogenic and natural stressors, which shape the type, degree, and interaction among effects on ecological systems. Organizations at the international level are increasingly and intensively engaged in this debate.
In this context, the overall objective of this seminar is to debate the occurrence, fate, and ecotoxicological effects of several family of emerging contaminants including pharmaceutical and personal-care products (PPCPs) in different aquatic systems, as well as their elimination from wastewaters. This seminar should contribute to the discussion and networking amongst academia, regulators, and other stakeholders to create possible integrated solutions to minimize the risk.
