conference CONCEPTS AND “DISPOSITIFS” OF
CREATION IN THE PERFORMING ARTS aims to address the growing (auto)reflexivity in contemporary creation.
In this ecology of creation, simultaneously marked by "rational
intervention" (Foucault) of “dispositifs” and by its present “proliferation”
(Agamben), art tends to move beyond its traditional operating framework,
characterized by the dominance of a skill or a certain way of expression.
We are witnessing a growing appreciation of ideas and concepts as ways of worldmaking and opening new sensorial horizons, within a context that is favorable for experimentation, transdisciplinarity and a wide range of material and technological mediations.
As architectures of expression and staging, and as models that regulate the experience of the spectators and affect their subjectivity, the undifferentiated accumulation of “dispositifs” also presupposes the existence of various ways of thinking about subjectivity and understanding the traditional disciplinary contexts. This reality visibly contaminates contemporary creation within the performing arts, challenging the usual notions of spectatorship, subject, author and work.
The conference welcomes papers and workshops on CONCEPTS AND “DISPOSITIFS” OF CREATION IN THE PERFORMING ARTS related to the following topics:
. The relationship between conceptualism and the performing arts
. The notion of “dispositif” within the arts
. Diversity of “dispositifs” (institutional, discursive, technological)
. The relationship between art, science and technology
. The influence of site-specific mediations
. New dynamics of creation: "practice-led research" and "research-led practice"
. Consequences for analysis and criticism
. Consequences for the communication and reception of the work
. Effects of the accumulation of “dispositifs” on contemporary subjectivity
. The growing professionalization of artistic practice;
The conference includes reflection and creation, cultural programming and academic discourse production. Conference participants (with and without presentation) may attend the following events at the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente (free of charge):
