The University of Coimbra (UC) provides Foundation Year Programmes (FYP) designed for those whose entry qualifications or Portuguese language proficiency do not meet the application and admission requirements of its degree programmes.
FYP lasts one year and provides international students with a pathway to degree studies at the UC. Once students complete the FYP and pass a final exam with the required grades, they can enter directly the first year of their chosen undergraduate/ integrated master degree at the UC.
Foundation Year Programme in Portuguese Language: aimed at students who have completed the secondary education and passed the national higher education entry exams (in their home country), recognised by UC, who do not have the required level of Portuguese language proficiency (B1).
Subject-specific Foundation Year Programmes: aimed
at Portuguese language proficient students who have completed the secondary
education but have not passed or reached the required grade in the national
higher education entry exams (in their home country) recognized by UC.
In this case, they have to take a Foundation Year Programme related to the academic subjects (Science and Technology/ Human and Social Sciences) of their chosen undergraduate/ integrated master degree and pass the relevant final exams with the required grades. The required minimum grade is 120 marks.
