4. Research interests
Archaeology: Neolithic to Iron Age (7º-1º mill. BC); Prehistoric Archaeology in the Iberian Peninsula, and particularly in the region of Trás-os-Montes (Portugal). The main goal is to search in what ways the human prehistoric communities interacted with the territory and how they "built" themselves in a political, social and economic point of view. Thus, the prehistoric and proto-historic "landscapes" of that region of Iberia must be researched into. My approach considers (1)rock-art (rock carvings and rock drawings) as a means of communication among people and between human populations and their land; (2) megalithic architectures and "megalithic" art as special, durable spaces for "public" display and collective management of "politics" ; (3) architecture and the perception of space as the basis for understanding of the past worlds; (4) palaeoenvironmental studies of the prehistoric landscapes as the "hard" basis of past ecosystems’ knowledge.
5Area of specialization
Prehistoric Archaeology, Prehistoric Art and Architecture. Both these specializations require the study of the material and social "building/dwelling " of territory by prehistoric communities.

Present research interests
The main interest of this investigation is the understanding of the ways of socialization/appropriation and the ensuing conceptual transformation of the territory by late prehistoric and proto-historic communities in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region (North of Portugal). To search how these communities "ordered their world" through the construction of passage-graves related to the ancestors, the rock paintings and engravings in open air sites, rock shelters and megalithic monuments, and the building of walled-enclosures like the mega-monument of Crasto de Palheiros (Murça) ( see images and url). This approach is developed: a) through the recording of the so called " prehistoric art"_ engraved and /or painted open air rock, rockshelters and standing stones/stelae _ and its spatial organization; b) the study ( through excavation ) of more or less monumental constructions; c) experimental archaeology in skills like perishable and durable artefacts and constructions related to the specific sites under excavation.

- Supervisor of the collective project " Set up, use and transformation of architectures, space and artefacts by pre-roman local populations at Crasto de Palheiros – Murça (Trás –os- Montes – Northeast Portugal: 2007-08"; ( Criação, uso e transformação das arquitecturas, dos espaços e dos artefactos no Crasto de Palheiros-Murça ( Trás-os-Montes - Nordeste de Portugal) pelas comunidades indígenas pré-romanas ( 3º mil. AC- séc. 1º DC). Host Institution: Faculty of Arts of University of Porto; Principal Contractor: CEAUCP Research Centre ( Centro de Estudos Arqueológicos das Universidades de Coimbra e Porto) ( Project proposed for "R&D projects"- FCT.)
- Supervisor of the collective project " : Crasto de Palheiros archaeological mega-monument ( Neolithic-Iron Age): archaeological study, architectonic restoration and publicity. This site is located in Murça-Northern Portugal (2001-07).( "Projecto de estudo arqueológico, de valorização e de divulgação de uma estação arqueológica monumental ocupada no Calcolítico e na Idade do Ferro— 2001-2003”.)
