International selection procedure for the recruitment of one Post-Doctoral Researcher

ADAI - Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Aerodinâmica Industrial (Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics) decided to open an international selection competition for a Post-Doctoral Researcher, within the scope of the project ESCIB - Developing environmental sustainability & circularity assessment methodologies for industrial bio-based systems, grant number 101135071, funded by the European Union.

1. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following tasks:

- Collaborate in the development of prospective Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and circularity assessment methodologies for biobased systems.

- Participate in meetings with companies and partners involved in the HE ESCIB project (https://www.escib.eu/) as well as in data collection.

- Collaborate in the preparation of scientific publications and deliverables of the project.

2. Type and contract duration

The temporary employment contract is expected to begin on January 1st 2026. Hiring shall be performed in accordance with the Labor Code and other applicable legislation governing individual labor contracts.

3. The selection Jury of the competition is composed as follows:

  • Presidente – Dr. Carla Rodrigues
    • 1st member – Professor Fausto Freire
    • 2nd member – Dr. Carlos Ferreira
    • (alternate member) – Professor José Baranda Ribeiro

4. The work will be carried out under the scientific supervision of Dr. Carla Rodrigues and Professor Fausto Freire, within the framework of the activities of the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transport and Aeronautics (ADAI-LAETA). The work sites are: i) the Industrial Aerodynamics Laboratory - LAI and ii) other sites that may be necessary to execute the work plan.

5. The monthly remuneration to be attributed is a gross value of 2351,53 € (TRU 33). Benefits include a daily lunch subsidy of 6,00 €.

6. The competition is open to national, foreign, and stateless candidates who hold a PhD degree in the field of engineering, energy, sustainability, or a related field, and holders of a scientific and professional curriculum that shows an appropriate profile to the activity to be developed, namely experience (e.g. articles published in WoS journals) in topics related to (prospective) life cycle assessment and circular economy.

In the case of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions, they must be accompanied by the respective certificates of recognition and grade conversion. Failure to submit these documents will result in a score of ‘0’ (zero) in sub-criterion AC1-academic background.

7. Admissible applications will be scored on a scale of 1 to 100 on each of the following evaluation criteria:

  • Curriculum Evaluation (AC) - 60%
  • Interview (INT) - 40%

The AC criterion, with a total weight of 60% in the final score, is divided into the following subcriteria:

  • AC (60%) = AC1 (40%) + AC2 (30%) + AC3 (30%)
    • AC1: Academic curriculum - (40%)
    • AC2: Scientific publication in the field of Life Cycle Assessment and/or Circularity Assessment (30%)
    • AC3: Motivation Letter (30 %).

Only candidates with a classification of 75% or higher in the curricular evaluation will be called for an interview.

The Interview criterion, with a total weight of 40% in the final score, is divided into the following subcriteria:

  • INT (40%) = INT1 (30%) + INT2 (40%) + INT3 (10%) + INT4 (10%)
    • INT1 - Motivation of the candidate to perform the functions, proactivity, and ability to work autonomously (30%);
    • INT2 – Knowledge of the tasks inherent to the functions (40%);
    • INT3 - Fluency of speech and capacity to convey ideas orally and proficiency in English language (10%);
    • INT4 – Availability to start the contract (10%).

8. Minutes of the Jury meeting, including an evaluation report, are available to the candidates whenever requested.

9. After completing the application of the selection process, the Jury proceeds to draw up the ordered list of approved candidates with the respective classification.

10. If the selected candidate is not willing to occupy the position, the Jury can decide to invite the next eligible candidate in the ordered list.

11. The final deliberation of the Jury is approved by the Board of Directors of ADAI, which is also responsible for deciding on hiring.

12. Application procedure:

a) Application to the position is formalized by sending the following information addressed to the Jury President, reference of number of this position (given at the top of this document), full name, number and date of the Citizen’s card or civil ID, tax identification number, date and place of birth, residence and contact address, including e-mail address and telephone contact.

b) The application shall be accompanied by documents proving the conditions described in points 6 and 7 for admission to this selection process, in particular:

  • Detailed curriculum vitae (CV);
  • Certificate or diploma, including a list of courses and grades
  • Motivation letter, in which the candidate should explain their knowledge of the project area
  • List of publications, including DOI (digital object identifier) link and Journal (JCR) impact factor (when applicable).
  • Degree recognition by a Portuguese Higher Education Institution according to the applicable legislation, for all graduations obtained abroad.

13. Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or do not give adequate proof of the requirements of this selection process are excluded from admission to the competition. The Jury has the power to require any candidate, in case of doubt, to present documents proving their statements.

14. Candidates who do not obtain a final mark equal to or greater than 75% will not be allowed to fill any of the position in tender for lack of absolute merit.

15. False statements by candidates shall be punished in accordance with the law.

16. Admitted and excluded candidates will be notified of their inclusion or exclusion by email. The final classification of eligible candidates will be sent to each candidate via email, along with a notification of receipt of delivery.

17. Prior hearing and deadline for the Final Decision: After being notified, the candidates have 10 working days to comment on the decision. Within a maximum of 10 days from the deadline for prior hearing, the final decisions of the Jury will be given.

18. The present selection process is exclusively intended to fill the vacancy indicated and it is terminated when the final list of candidates is approved, and the advertised position is filled

20. Under DL No. 29/2001, of February 3, a disabled candidate is given preference in the case of equal classification, which prevails over any other legal preference. Candidates must declare their respective degree of incapacity, the type of disability and the means of communication / expression to be used in the selection process, under the terms of the aforementioned diploma, on the application form.
