CALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Aerodinâmica Industrial - ADAI opens a call for 1 fellowship, in the framework of project “PREMIUM” reference number B.PRJ.RT.858.

Scientific area(s):

Mechanical Engineering and related areas or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry and related areas.

Skills/Qualifications/Admission requirements

May apply to this research fellowship candidates who have completed Master Degree in the above mentioned areas and are living in Portugal.

Work plan/ Objectives

The objective of the project is to study the ageing process of nitrocellulose based energetic materials in order to access the reaction kinetics of the degradation process and the correlations linking the environmental parameters (e.g. temperature and moister) and the remaining shelf life.

1. Realization of accelerated ageing tests at different temperatures and humidifies;

2. Realization of several kinds of characterization tests as: a) Morphology (by SEM or optical microscope); b) Density and Porosity; c) Chemical composition (elemental analysis); d) Thermal behavior by DSC/DTA; e) HPLC or HTPLC and f) FTIR.

3. Treatment and analysis of all the information aiming to achieve the above mentioned objectives.

Regime:

The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime. The fellowship holder is awarded the Fellowship Statute of ADAI, in its current wording, according to the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, and according to the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., both in their current wording.

Location:

Work will be developed within the activities of the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics of the Associated Laboratory in Energy, Transport and Aeronautics (ADAI-LAETA). The work places are Department of Mechanical Engineering or other places that are necessary for the execution of the work plan

Duration:

The fellowship will last for 12 months on an exclusive basis, with the possibility of renewal, but never beyond the end date of the project, in accordance with the FCT Research Fellowship Regulations and the ADAI Scientific Research Fellowship Regulations.

Renewal:

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be done as determined in art. 6 of the Regulation of Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Scientific orientation:

Professor José Manuel Baranda Ribeiro and Professor Carlos Miguel Baptista Ferreira

Financial conditions:

The amount of the fellowship is of 1144,64€ corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en), plus personal accidents insurance and the possible reimbursement of the social security (Seguro Social Voluntário– should the recipient decide for the first level contributions). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection Methods:

Curricular Evaluation [CE] (70%) and Interview [I] (30%).

Selection criteria:

In the CE the following criterial will be considered: CE1) Previous formation adequacy; CE2) Scholar classification at the end of the Bachelor cycle studies; CE3) Scholar classification at the end of the Master cycle studies; CE4) Relevant professional or scientific experience; CE5) Scientific outputs (publications); CE6) Motivation letter.

In the interview the following criteria will be considered: I1) Relevant knowledge to the work plan implementation; I2) Communication skills; I3) Knowledge of the English language.

Note 1. Each one of the previously specified selection criteria will be evaluated in a range from 0 to 100.

Note 2. In the criteria CE2 and CE3 the granting-degree institution will be taken in consideration.

The classification in the CE component will be calculated with the following equation

CE = (0.20 x CE1) + (0.20 x CE2) + (0.25 x CE3) + (0.20 x CE4) + (0.10 x CE5) + (0.05 x CE6)

The classification in the Interview will be calculated using the following equation

I = (0.40 x I1) + (0.40 x I2) + (0.20 x I3)

The final classification [FC] will be calculated with the following equation

FC = (0.7 x CE) + (0.3 x I) .

Only candidates with a classification above 50% in the curricular evaluation will be called for an interview. The jury reserves itself the right not to award the scholarship if the candidate does not have the right profile (rating below 50% in the interview)

If the first-placed candidate does not accept the scholarship or withdraws the scholarship during the course of the work program, the second-placed candidate may be invited to accept the scholarship. This procedure may be repeated, according to the decision of the grantee's supervisors, respecting the order of the list in the minutes of the selection process in subsequent cases of non-acceptance or withdrawal.

Jury responsible

President – Professor José Manuel Baranda Ribeiro

1st vogal – Professor Carlos Miguel Batista Ferreira
