No. The UC issues automatically the cards for all the students who enrol/register at the UC, including those admitted by means of the National Contest of Access and Admission (CNA).

To this end, students just need to have their photo and personal data, including the name to be included in the card (given name and one or two surnames), inserted at InforEstudante.

Yes, you do. This is why temporary cards are used in some situations.

For the new Students admitted by means of the National Contest of Access and Admission (CNA), the temporary card is delivered during the in-person enrolment. If the enrolment is carried out online, it is also possible to receive the card at the location during the enrolment period or at a location and on a date to be communicated to the student.

In summary:

  1. The Students receive and activate that card during the enrolment week at the in-person enrolment location, or
  2. Receive and/or activate that card at their Faculty or Department, after the enrolment period.

After the student card is issued, when it arrives at the Faculty/Department, it is registered and validated. This procedure triggers an automatic notification to the Student with the information necessary for him/her to pick it up:

(1) At the Student Assistance Office/Service of your Faculty or Department:
» If you are a student of a course at the UC (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD or Non-Degree Course).
» Regarding the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC), the card will be sent to the Department responsible for your cycle of studies/course.

(2) At the International Relations Unit (DRI):
» If you are a mobility incoming student or International Student admitted by the Special Contest of Access and Admission.

(3) At the Academic Centre of the Academic Management Services in Polo 1 (Student Hub):
» If you are a student registered only for Isolated Curricular Units.

The same procedure is applied to the students who have a temporary card. The whole process is managed by the Information Technology Platform “Management of UC Cards” that sends the necessary information to SIBS, which is the entity responsible for the cards’ issuance. This platform is available to the Faculties, and at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, to its Departments.
