Top 3 per cent of Students Award

The University of Coimbra awards an annual amount equal to the difference between the minimum and the maximum tuition fee to the top 3 per cent of students registered for a 1st Cycle, Integrated Master’s and Continuity Master’s  Degree Course.

For that purpose, two contingents are created:

» Students of 1st year + Students of 1st year of Continuity Master’s Degree [contingent 1]
» Students of the other curricular years of each course [contingent 2]

Students of 1st year are sorted by their admission grade to the University of Coimbra. If two (or more) students have the same grade, the youngest student is the chosen one.The students of the 1st year of a Continuity Master’s Degree Course are sorted by the final average grade of the Bachelor’s Degree whose Master’s Degree has scientific continuity.

The students of the other curricular years are sorted by the sequential application of the following criteria:

  • Best weighted average of the grades obtained in the curricular units concerning the study programme.
  • Best weighted average of the grades obtained in all the curricular units concerning the previous academic years.
  • Highest number of ECTS credits already obtained
  • Ascending order by age
The weighted average of the curricular units is calculated to the hundredths place.
Eligible students are only those who had a successful assessment in a number of curricular units for which they were registered for the first time, corresponding to a minimum of 60 ECTS credits and a grade equal to or higher than 14 in the academic year to which the award refers.
In each academic year at least an amount is awarded within each course and contingent, provided that the condition mentioned above is fulfilled.
The students who are awarded this amount will have it mentioned in their Diploma Supplement.
