The lecture ‘Alexandre Kojève, reader of Pierre Bayle’ by Giovanni Zanotti, as part of Disciplinary Affinities, will take place on 8th May at 2pm in Room 9 on the 5th floor of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC).
Giovanni Zanotti is researcher at CEIS20 and is currently working on an international project on the manuscripts of Alexandre Kojève at the National Library of France (Paris). Here, the researcher discovered a manuscript by Alexandre Kojève on Pierre Bayle, never before described in the scientific community. This manuscript analyses Pierre Bayle's concept of tolerance and Kojève's foray into the themes of the modern state and coexistence between religions. In his lecture, Giovanni Zanotti will talk about the finding and Kojève's conceptions in this writing. This is the first time in the world that this information has been made public, even before it was published in an article.
