Theorizing the role of regionally-dominant political economic systems, based on extractivist sectors in the Amazon and Nordic forests’, as part of the Axes of Interdisciplinary Knowledge. Biography

Markus Kröger, Dr. in Social Sciences (World Politics), is a Professor of Global Development Studies at the University of Helsinki. Professor Kröger is one of the founding members of The Global Extractivisms and Alternatives research initiative (EXALT.fi). He has written extensively on global natural resource politics, conflicts, and social resistance movements and their economic outcomes, especially in relation to mining, forestry and agriculture. He is also an expert in political economy, development, and globalization in Latin America, India, and the Arctic.
