The Projectory - Developing and training skills for greater resilience in Research and Science, by Sofia Vaz and Cristina Gouveia (S.714 - Sustainability and Ethics), will take place on 18th June at 2pm in the CEIS20 Seminar Room.

Originally used in physics and engineering to describe the ability of a material to return to its original shape after deformation or impact, the term ‘resilience’ has increasingly been applied to the ability to overcome adversity, becoming a central theme when discussing the challenges of a research career. But what does it mean to be resilient in this context? Which challenges require the most resilience? And what skills should researchers develop and train to overcome them? And how can this knowledge be brought into daily practice?

This workshop will promote self-reflection activities to identify strengths and develop coping skills, helping participants to better manage stress, deal with failures and re-activate motivation. The session will combine moments of reflection, practical exercises and moments of ideation with a view to action. The workshop includes three main blocks:

  1. Challenges and Pressures in Academic Research;
  2. Practical Strategies for Resilience;
  3. Creating support and coping mechanisms.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have acquired concrete tools and strategies to strengthen self-knowledge, improve active listening and dialogue, and jointly develop support mechanisms to cope with adversity.

Registration is open until 17th June by email: projetos.ceis20@uc.pt (Olga Solovova).
