"The Interdisciplinary Nature of the Information Science and a Proposal for Interdisciplinary Research"

On 24 February at 2:30 p.m., in the CEIS20 Seminar Room, Serap Kurbanoğlu will deliver the session ‘The Interdisciplinary Nature of the Information Science and a Proposal for Interdisciplinary Research’, as part of the Axes of Interdisciplinary Knowledge. The session will take place in person, but it will also be streamed online via Teams for those unable to attend. Prior registration is required to follow the conference.

Abstract

In this presentation, the inherently interdisciplinary nature of Information Science, how its interdisciplinary evolution is developing and how its relations with various disciplines such as Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Library Science, Communication Studies, and more, are changing will be explored. Additionally, an interdisciplinary research project on the tourists' information behaviour which is related to both information science and tourism will be briefly introduced.


Biography

Dr. Kurbanoğlu received her PhD in Information Studies from Sheffield University, United Kingdom. She is a professor at the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University, publishing and lecturing on systems analysis, project management, green libraries, research data management as well as information literacy and lifelong learning. Dr. Kurbanoğlu has a good experience on big scale quantitative research projects. She is involved in and also administered multi-national research projects such as Information Literacy skills of LIS students (carried out in 18 countries), and copyright literacy skills of LIS professional (carried out in 15 countries). She was the chair of EUCLID (The European Association for Library and Information Education and Research). She has a good experience in organizing professional conferences both on national and international scales. She is the co-initiator and general co-chair of ECIL (European Conference on Information Literacy). She is the member of program committees of numerous conferences and also serves as a referee for many scientific journals.
