Cookies Policy

The University of Coimbra’s website uses cookies. A cookie is a small file with alphanumeric information that is stored by the browser in the equipment’s local storage with which you accessed the UC website, distinguishing the type of accesses done through the equipment, from other accesses done through other devices.

The UC uses cookies to improve the browsing performance of its web page, eliminating the need to repeatedly enter the same information and thus increasing the response speed and efficiency, thus providing you with a better browsing experience as they help determining the usefulness, interest, and number of uses of our pages by maintaining their status while browsing (such as the language in which the web page is displayed).

Cookies also allow us to continually improve our contents without storing any personally identified or recognizable information, such as your name or address.

Cookie Types

Cookies can be stored for one session only (to record user preferences such as the language in which websites are displayed or to keep user sessions logged in and are automatically deleted when the browser is closed) or can be persistent (to record required information between sessions, such as indicating that you have already become aware of the privacy policy). In any case, cookies remain until their expiration date or when deleted by the user.

Cookie Purposes

Strictly necessary, when they allow us to use our applications and access secure and reserved areas by collecting anonymous information that helps improve the way the web page works. We use these cookies in particular to “remember” the information entered in forms and visit logs for statistical processing. Acceptance of these cookies is a condition of use of our website and their inhibition prevents access to authenticated content.

Preferences, when they help remembering your preferences in the web page navigation, so you don't need to reconfigure and customize them each time you visit and use us. We use these cookies, in particular, to check whether the web page has consistent information or, for example, to "remind" you if you wish to register on a form. You can control this type of cookies through your browser settings, however we warn you that restricting cookies may impact the functionality of our website.

Marketing, when used to target marketing based on the interests of each user. The UC does not use advertising cookies.

Statistics, when they collect information about how you use the site, thus helping us to identify the most visited contents, so that we can match our content to your needs. These cookies do not collect personal data and cannot be changed or retrieved by any service or other domain. The information obtained through these means, as already mentioned, does not allow to establish any connection to the users’ IP address for the purpose of verifying personal data. The UC uses Google Analytics services to monitor the usage levels of its sites and you can find additional information about data collection here.
