UNESCO Biosphere Reserves today cover around 5,8% of the planet’s land surface, bringing together more than 300 million people who live and work in harmony with nature — protecting biodiversity and shaping new ways of coexisting with the life on the planet. On this World Biosphere Reserve Day, we celebrate a real model of sustainability — built on science, culture, and hope, and grounded in co-governance and the choices of the people who care for these territories. Together, we renew our commitment to choose and build a more balanced, fair, and caring future for both people and the planet.
