UNIVERSITY |
The University of Coimbra was founded on 1 of March of 1290 by king D. Dinis. It was the first Portuguese university and it maintains very alive the academic traditions.
The University is composed by eight faculties: Humanities, Medicine, Economy, Law, Sciences and Technology, Pharmacy, Psychology and Sciences of the Education and Sport Sciences and Physical Education. With about 21.000 students, the University is divided by the city of Coimbra in campus, contributing for the strong integration of the University in the everyday life. The biggest party of the city is the students' party, denominated Queima das Fitas, it takes place in May and it integrates many activities, as daily music festivals, sport modalities with cultural events.
FACULTY |
Created as course in 1992, the Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education is the newest of the eight faculties of the University of Coimbra.
The FSSPE, in the spirit of a growing international co-operation in high education throughout Europe, Brazil, Mozambique, United States of America and Popular Republic of China, encourages the exchange of students, teachers and joint research projects
The Faculty has sport infrastructures in the University Stadium of Coimbra, where they are taught the theoretical and practical classes that compose the plan curricular of graduation studies: see also http://apps.uc.pt/courses/en/course/847/ram/12161/2012-2013

HOW TO ARRIVE TO COIMBRA |
A) From Portela Airport (Lisbon)
This page includes information on the accesses of the airport to the city of Lisbon, the Portuguese capital that locates to 200 km of Coimbra.
You may take a taxi or the underground to “Gare do Oriente” railway station. The taxi only takes up to 4 people. The luggage that exceeds 55x36x20 cm is transported in the boot and will increase the cost. After your arrival in “Gare do Oriente” consult Lisbon-Porto-itinerary that is the service with stop in Coimbra. A train ticket will cost about 15-20 euros (per person). The train will spent about 120 minutes in the trip to Coimbra. A free connection exists from Coimbra B (main station) to Coimbra A (city-centre).
You may take a taxi or undergroud to Bus station Sete Rios and take a bus (Rede Expressos) to Coimbra.
B) From Sá Carneiro Airport (Oporto)
The airport is located to 11 Km of downtown of Oporto (125 km of Coimbra)
This page includes information on the accesses of the airport to the city of Oporto.
You may take a taxi or the underground to “Campanhã” railway station. The taxi only takes up to 4 people. The luggage that exceeds 55x36x20 cm is transported in the boot and will increase the cost. After your arrival in “Campanhã” consult Porto-Lisbon which is the service with stop in Coimbra. A train ticket will cost about 15 to 20 euros (per person). The train will spent about 60 minutes in the trip to Coimbra. You should consult Lisbon-Porto-itinerary that is the service with stop in Coimbra. A free connection exists from Coimbra B (main station) to Coimbra A (city-centre).
You may take a taxi or undergroud to Bolhão - Bus station and take a bus (Rede Expressos) to Coimbra.

EVALUATIONS
The student can choose one of the following options: 1) Continuous evaluation during the semester 2) NORMAL EXAM (during the examination period)
If the student fail in one of the options above, the only possibility to get evaluation is in the 2nd exam [EXAME DE RECURSO] (during the examination period)

LANGUAGE PORTUGUESE COURSES |
The students have the opportunity to attend Portuguese languages courses:
1) Intensive Portuguese course (from September 1 till September 15 / other beginning in February for the students of the second semester. You should make the registration as soon as possible
2) Portuguese as a foreign language. You should make the registration as soon as possible
HEALTH SERVICES |
The students of the European Union should obtain the European Card. The incoming students outside European Union should bring an health insurance.
The University of Coimbra makes possible for all of the students the Medical Services, free of charges: Rua Oliveira Matos, Coimbra.
The University of Coimbra and FCDEF render support to the students' mobility. The beneficiaries' of the program involvement in non-academic activities, in matter of no legalized labor, will have to be denounced to the authorities by us . The Faculty will refuse any responsibility in the residence permit in Portugal.
