When and how will I know if I was admitted to the Doctoral Program?
 After the  application deadline, the scientific commission of the Department will assemble and analyse all applications. The results are out within the scheduled  deadline. Every applicant will receive a notification  informing him/her whether he/she was admitted or not to the PhD program. Student should confirm the intention to enroll in the Program.
Is there any financial support for this PhD Program?
For a list of available external scholarships click here. There may be scholarships available in the framework of projects of the Research Centre (CISUC) for students accepted in the first year of our PhD Program.  Applications for these scholarships will be available to accepted students as soon as admission results are out.
Do I have to own a laptop?
The Department does not provide that equipment, so you should have your own laptop.
In what language will the courses be taught?
As long as there is at least one non-Portuguese speaking student enrolled, the courses will be taught in English.
I’m a foreign student. If I am accepted in the PhD program, how can I find accommodation?
The Department can try to get you a University Residence room for the first month, time enough to find a room to rent outside the residence.
What are the costs of this degree?
The tuition to be secured by the student is €2,750 per year . This amount can be paid in four different periods along the two semesters.
The cost of living in Coimbra: Prospective candidates should consider a monthly cost of €455 as typical minimum living expenses. (Room - €150; Food - €210; Transportation - €35; Miscellaneous - €60)
What is the classes schedule?
There is no pre-defined schedule until close to the beginning of the school year. Classes will preferably take place on only one or two days of the week.
Where can I take the GRE and TOEFL tests?

You can register for the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Test and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) at the ETS registration site (www.ets.org). You can take the test in Coimbra (DEI) or Lisbon.

All applicants must have their test scores sent directly to the University of Coimbra.
