Mafalda Laranjo is a Post-doctoral Fellow at Faculty
of Medicine of University of Coimbra. Since she graduated in Biology, she has been
committed with cancer research. Both her MSc (Cell and Molecular Biology) dissertation
and her PhD (Health Sciences) thesis were focused on the development of
improved photosensitizers for therapy and imaging. In collaboration with
researchers from the Coimbra Chemistry Centre, new entities are synthetized and
evaluated regarding their mechanisms of action and therapeutic outcome, using
cell and molecular biology techniques and animal models of cancer. Mafalda also contributes for translational projects
applied to several medical specialties, from gynaecology to dentistry. In 2018, she is the coordinator of one
research project and participant researcher of projects with a global funding
of >2M€. Because of her participation in several research projects, she is
co-author of more than 40 full-text papers, one book chapter and one filled
patent. Mafalda often collaborates in the teaching activities
at FMUC, such as the PhD Program, the annual Course in Cell and Tissue Culture
and Laboratory Animal Science courses. Furthermore, she was supervisor or co-supervisor
of 2 BSc students, 8 MSc students (4 concluded) and 2 PhD students (ongoing). She
is an invited reviewer for oncology journals and national and international
science funding agencies. |
