Novel Place Recognition

This task probes spatial recognition memory. Two identical familiar objects are placed in the arena and the animal allowed to explore. One of those objects is then moved to a different location and the animal allowed to explore once more. Under normal conditions, the animal will explore the object that has been moved more than the one that is left in place. This is known to be dependent on the hippocampus.
