A link between synaptic plasticity and reorganization of brain activity in Parkinson's disease
"Here we provide a link between synaptic plasticity at the molecular level and reorganization of brain activity patterns. We combined molecular imaging of dopamine D2 receptors and fMRI to identify molecular mechanisms underlying functional reorganization in PD. The identification of a relationship between neural activation changes with compensatory molecular phenotypes at the synaptic level paves the way for future work to understand the limits of brain reorganization of functional networks in neurological disorders."
