International conference with delegation from CASS Institute of International Law


On November 11, 2019, the Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra (ASL-UC) promoted, within the framework of the CASS-UC Centre of China Studies, the International Conference Sino-Portuguese Rule of Law and Cooperation in the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative (programme) in the Lecture Room 1.05 of the Trinity College, from 9:30 to 12:30.

The opening session was led by Professor Rui de Figueiredo Marcos, Director of ASL-UC and of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (FDUC), who welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed satisfaction with the discussion of a pertinent theme in the context of the Sino-Lusophone relations in the current world order. He underlined the importance of publishing books and articles in collaboration with China, and announced that the Chinese version of the book of the Faculty of Law and the bilingual book with speeches given at the inaugural conference of the ASL-UC (June 2019) will be launched soon.

The conference was attended by five speakers from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS): three professors from the Institute of International Law, led by its Director, Professor Mo Jihong, and two professors from the Chinese Journal of Social Sciences.

The speakers from the UC were Professor João Carlos Marques (Director of MARE and Professor at the Department of Life Sciences, FCTUC), Professor Ana Raquel Moniz (Deputy Director of ASL-UC and FDUC), and Professor Alexandre Soveral Martins (professor at FDUC).

 In the closing session, Professor João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, thanked the participants for their presence, congratulating the CASS Institute of International Law for its 10th anniversary. He also put emphasis on the importance of holding this multidisciplinary and transversal conference for the strategic aim of the UC to assert itself as a platform between Portugal, the Portuguese-speaking countries and China.
