José Amado Mendes

He holds Doctorate in Modern and Contemporary History from the University of Coimbra and a Master’s in Educational Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin (USA). He is Full Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra and also works with Universidade Autónoma in Lisbon. He has directed his research across a wide range of areas including: economic and social history, business history, business culture and ethics, organisational culture and leadership, museology and cultural heritage, on which he has published many works. He was Course Director of the “Masters in Museology and Cultural Heritage” program and one of the organisers of the first national gathering on Industrial Heritage (Coimbra – Guimarães – Lisbon, in 1986) the proceedings of which were published under his supervision. He was a member and coordinator of the working group of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on the 20th Century CEIS 20 and President of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. He is also a member of many scientific organisations in Portugal and abroad.
