Américo Freire

He is a teacher in the Post-Graduate Degree Programme in History, Politics and Cultural Goods Programme of the CPDOC/FGV and the Higher School of Social Sciences of the same institution. He holds a PhD in Social History from UFRJ and did his post-doctoral training at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. He is a Researcher for the National Council of Technology and Scientific Development (CNPq), coordinator of the CNPq “Political Cultures and democratisation processes” Research Group and member of Political Studies Laboratory of CPDOC/FGV. He also conducts research in political history and in contemporary Brazilian historiography.

He is the author of “Sinais trocados: o Rio de Janeiro e a República brasileira” [Mixed signals: Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian Republic] (2012) among other books.
