Edmundo Balsemão Pires

Edmundo Balsemão Pires is Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. He completed his Masters in Contemporary Philosophy in 1990 with a dissertation on the thought of Emmanuel Levinas. He obtained a Doctorate in 1999 with a thesis on the political philosophy of Hegel (published in 2006), entitled ‘People, Ethics and Reason’, and has written dozens of articles in scientific journals. As a researcher in the Research and Develoment Unit ‘Language, Interpretation and Philosophy’, he is coordinator of the research group “Individualism of Modern Society”.
