Filomena Botelho

She was born in Manteigas in July 1957. She obtained a Degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra in 1981 and completed her Doctorate in 1992 with a thesis on Biophyiscal and Physiological Sciences. She has taught at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra since 1988 and is currently Professor of Biophysics and Director of the Biomathematical and Biophysics Institute of the faculty.

Her research is in biophysics, in the development of animal models for human diseases (cancer, heart ischemia) nuclear oncology, (from molecular biology to molecular imaging) photodynamic therapy in vitro and in vivo modelos and radiopharmacology.

She is author or co-author of one hundred and three scientific articles published in Portuguese and international journals and more than five hundred scientific works presented at national and international congresses.She is a member of eleven national and international scientific organisations.

She has been Deputy Director of the Institute of Applied Nuclear Health Sciences of the University of Coimbra.
