A. M. Galopim de Carvalho

He was born in Évora in 1931. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Lisbon, having been part of the Department of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences since 1961. He is the author of twenty-one books, ranging from scientific, pedagogical, and academic topics to fiction and memoires. He has written more than two hundred papers in scientific journals. As an active citizen and defender of Geology and geological heritage, he has published more than one hundred and fifty opinion pieces. Between 1993 and 2003 he was director of the National Museum of Natural History during which time he organised many exhibitions and participated in more than two-hundred lectures both in Portugal and abroad.
