E. Ivo Alves

Born in Lisbon in 1959, he holds a Doctorate in Geology from the University of Coimbra, where he works as Director of the Geophysics Institute and Auxiliary Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences. He has lectured mainly in the areas of geophysics, geomathematics and planetary geosciences. He was the founder and main researcher of the first Portuguese broad spectrum research project about Mars, which conferred on the Geophysics Institute the status of an official laboratory t of the European Space Agency.

He has published more than eighty research articles in books, magazines and conference proceedings, ; he  is interested in the public communication of geosciences, having organised more than a hundred conferences and interviews for the media over the last decade.
