João Maria André
He was born in 1954 in Monte Real, Leiria and he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra in 1979 where he later acquiring his Doctorate with a dissertation on Nicolau de Cusa. He is a Full Professor at the same faculty where he teaches in the areas of Philosophy and Theatre. Among the many books he has authored are: Renascimento e Modernidade: do poder da magia à magia do poder [“The Renaissance and Modernity: the power of magic and the magic of power”], Sentido simbolismo e interpretação no discurso filosófico de Nicolau de Cusa [“Symbolism feeling and interpretation of the philosophical discourse of Nicolau de Cusa”], Pensamento e afectividade [“Thought and affectivity”], Diálogo intercultural, utopia e mestiçagens em tempos de globalização [“Intercultural dialogue, utopia and miscegenation in the context of globalisation”]. He has also translated many works of Nicolau de Cusa into Portuguese. Besides his teaching and research activities, he is also involved in the culture industry, namely in the form of translation, drama and stage direction at the Coimbra Bonifrates Cooperative and at the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre, where he was Director from 2001 to 2005.
In the area of poetry he has published Rostos suspensos and Estilhaços em poemas.
