João Luís J. Fernandes

He holds a Doctorate in Geography from the University of Coimbra and is Auxiliary Professor in the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. He is also a Researcher at the Geography and Territorial Planning Studies Centre (CEGOT) of the Universities of Coimbra, Porto and Braga. He has carried out research in the areas of landscapes and the relationships of power they express, the heritage of post-modernity, and the way product-based industrties – as instruments of the representation of space – become territorialized and create new landscape narratives, as happens in the context of territory created by cinema. He has also looked at the role played by image in the affirmation of space in strategic planning, highlighting the necessary cohesion of each geographical space.
