Luísa Carvalho

She is from Bragança where she has been teaching the following subjects for more than twenty years in the Higher School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança: Portuguese Literature, Literary Theory, Literature and Culture in the Portuguese Language, and Culture and Speech.

She began studying for the Degree in Romantic Philology at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon and finished it at the University of Coimbra. She taught at José Falcão Secundary School in Coimbra for twelve years. During that time she attended a Master’s Degree course in Portuguese Literature at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra with a dissertation on: A Máquina e a Literatura. As metáforas da máquina em Fernando Pessoa/Álvaro de Campos [“The Machine and Literature; the Machine metaphor in Fernando Pessoa/Álvaro de Campos”], coordinated by Vítor Aguiar e Silva, who would later coordinate her Doctoral research at the University of Minho (2002).

Her Doctoral thesis was entitled Literatura Portuguesa. A Fundação de uma disciplina [“Portuguese Literature; the foundation of a discipline”] later to be reorganized into a work given the following title O Ensino do Português. Como tudo começou, [“The teaching of Portuguese. How it all started”].
