Miguel Bandeira

He is currently the councillor in charge of Urbanism, Planning and Urban Rehabilitation and the liaison officer between the University and Braga City Council. He was President of the Social Sciences Institute at the University of Minho and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography. He teaches or has taught at the following courses: Geography and Planning, Architecture (in Guimarães) and Sociology, History and Social Communication (in Braga). He coordinates several Post-Graduate projects, Doctorates (Geography, Sociology and History) and Master’s (Geography, Architecture, Heritage and Tourism) at the University of Minho. He is a researcher at the Centre of Studies for Geography and Organization of the Territory (CEGOT) (Universities of Coimbra, Porto and Minho). He has recently served as the Secretary-General of the Foundation Centre for Euroregional Studies Galiza – Northern Portugal (CEER) and a member of the Executive Board of the National Geography Commission. He is interested in the areas of: urban geography and urbanism; cultural/historical geography: cultural and natural heritage; planning and organization of the territory; modern and contemporary history of Portugal, and is the author of several publications on the matter. He has also taken part in interdisciplinary research projects and has been invited to give talks at numerous conferences. He is also intensely involved in work at the civic and associative level especially on the defence, study and promotion of cultural and natural heritage (ASPA) and is also part of the Centre for Portuguese Studies at the University of Minho.
