This work presents some less well-known aspects of Egas Moniz within an extensive and inclusive framework, drawing upon previously unpublished documentation and the results of research carried out by the History and Sociology of Science Group of the Centre for 20th Century Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20) at the University of Coimbra. As well as valuing the political, cultural, business and scientific aspects of Egas Moniz, the work guards against linearity and celebrationism, pointing out some of the biases resulting from what the author considers to be “Biographical Power”. Egas Moniz is thus reinscribed into a critical framework that opposes the reverential and celebrative approach, but instead seeks to reassess his works, creations and inventions.
