4 JUNE 2018
“Lend a Hand” – UC team developed a toolkit to promote the inclusion of migrant and refugee children at school
A team of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra developed and tested a set of didactic materials to help teachers and other education agents to support the inclusion of migrant and refugee children at school and the society at large.
The toolkit was developed within the scope of the project “Lend a Hand – Social Inclusion Programming for Migrant and Refugee Children at Primary Schools”, a Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership funded by the European Union. The UC research partners were the University of Gazi (Turkey) and the University of Florence (Italy).
Considering the complexity of the topic and the difficulties felt by primary schools teachers of the countries involved in the project, the kit includes a set of recommendations for the global development of children to be implemented in the class room, at school and in the community at large. Teachers will find several proposals consisting on curriculum based activities specifically developed around key thematic axes, complemented by methods to assess the students’ competences and the efficiency of this new approach.
In partnership with the National Education Directorate of Ancara, the project developed also a strategic action plan for the political decision-makers of the partner countries.
The toolkit is available for download here.
