We seek to recruit:

1 Senior Scientific Director

2 Group Leaders (junior, midcareer or senior level)


The newly founded Research Institute of Excellence, MIA-Portugal will hire a Senior Scientific Director and 8 new research groups focused on different aspects of the basic research on Ageing or related mechanisms, and work in a new building that hosts MIA-Portugal laboratories, close to the University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and physically linked to imaging facilities, as well as animal facilities.

We offer a possibility to a tenured track position at the University of Coimbra and an interesting start-up packages and state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructures focusing on any topic related to the Molecular and Biological Basis of Ageing.

The Senior Scientific Director should have an outstanding scientific performance, coordination experience, international networks.

For the Group Leaders the start-up packages include 3 post-docs and one technician to constitute each team. We expect candidates to develop a competitive, independent research program in his/her respective field, local collaboration and integration into the Coimbra biomedical community. Applicants should hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree, with a record of outstanding research potential.

  • a complete CV
  • a description of research interests and relevance to the field of ageing (achievements and projects, max 5 pages)
  • name and contact of three references who will be independently asked to provide support letters.
